Here's how to measure the distance to a cloud. You need to take two photos from the windows on the twenty-third floor. The windows should be about a dozen meters apart and facing the same direction. The photos should show the ground (buildings, streets, etc.) and a cloud - the same cloud in both photos. Then, in Gimp, overlay the photos so that the cloud in both photos aligns. Look for something on the ground that also aligns in both photos (a church, a building, a bridge, etc.). The cloud is at the same distance as that other thing that aligns - and you can check the distance to that thing on google maps.
We did this on Friday with J., and it turned out to be nine kilometers.
